Howard, what's your take on Clojure vs. Scala? I personally find Clojure syntax unbearable (I have never been into LISP) whereas Scala is much closer to Java and other OO languages
I'm just the opposite; I love the simplicity and symmetry of Lisp, and find Scala (and Haskell, for that matter) cryptic and confusing.
